Some people may disagree, but lead magnets are a waste of time and resources when it comes to growing your newsletter.
In most cases, it’s enrolling people in the newsletter who are interested in the magnet, not in the ongoing thing. After they get the magnet, they’ll quickly bail from the newsletter anyway.
(I like to use 10minutemail.com and receive-smss.com to create temporary contact information so I can get the lead magnets without giving away my info).
If you’re having trouble growing your company’s newsletter, drafting a better call to action will do more to grow it than trying to build better lead magnets.
Here’s how:
📈 Promise value (and deliver)
📅 Tell subscribers how often they’ll get it (and stick to it)
👔 Provide social proof
👤 Draft button text in first-person (“Sign me up”)
🙅♂️ Make a promise you won’t sell their data (and stick to that as well)
Going back to the lead magnet rant: when we’re all sharing the same internet, and good advice is easy to find, there’s no use in gatekeeping valuable resources.
