Breaking patterns of poverty in Louisville
After decades of serving people in Louisville, A Hand Up’s Founder & Executive Director, Chandra Stroud, observed patterns of poverty prevalent in specific zip codes in our city. She noticed that cycles of poverty and crime were even more pervasive in marginalized communities where the focus was just on making ends meet, striving and not thriving.
In 2017, she founded A Hand Up to help bridge gaps by providing vital resources and financial education to enhance individuals’ standard of living both today and tomorrow through a holistic, 360º approach to uplifting and empowering
Since the organization’s founding, A Hand Up has impacted the lives of over a thousand people by meeting urgent financial needs, providing food and clothing to the unhoused and offering vital education around financial literacy and homeownership.
The challenge
A confusing user experience
A Hand Up’s previous website was difficult to navigate, included outdated information and did not integrate with the growing nonprofit’s existing software and tools.
The old site also had confusing user flows, such as a “donate” button that required multiple clicks and led to a contact form instead of the donation page.
Their team also faced challenges with inefficient photo management and a lack of a clear digital strategy, hindering their ability to showcase their impact and apply for grants.
The solution
Focus on impact and vision
We collaborated closely with A Hand Up to design and develop a new website that is both professional and user-friendly.
The new website features streamlined donation and program application processes, a filterable community resources list and strategically-placed email signup forms that connect directly to Bloomerang, their donor management software.
The new site now clearly communicates A Hand Up’s mission and empowers them to showcase their work, provide helpful information to visitors and pursue new grant opportunities.
